What is an Occupational Therapist (OT)?

When someone has a physical/cognitive change in their body, OT’s are the #1 experts in teaching people to modify their daily activities, routines, and environments so they can maximize their independence and ultimately live and age successfully.  An OT can teach prevention and planning for all ages, but we specialize with the aging population and have worked with 100’s of people who have fallen.

What makes the this program different from other Basic Fall Prevention Classes?

I’ve worked with many people who have fallen and found that most times it could have been prevented through lifestyle modifications and education.  Unfortunately people do not work with an OT until after they have fallen and it’s too late.  Even if you have seen an OT or attended other fall prevention classes, I guarantee you will learn something because our approach is unique and very concentrated.  I know it works because I see the after-effect and changes a lot of people have made after going through it.

Examples of Feedback received from this class:

  • “This is unlike any fall prevention program I’ve ever been to, I feel like I actually learned something.” ~A
  • “I have been to many insurance-based fall-prevention programs, and have fallen 6 times since then.  After your program I have finally found what I was looking for.  I wish I knew what I know now…  I would have done things a lot differently.”  ~B
  • “Very informative.”  ~C

Who should come to the class?

  • If you are aged 65+:  Anyone can benefit because you will get the tools to train not only your current self, but your future self as well!  Come and learn while you are sharp enough to retain and understand.  Start at an earlier age and train yourself to identify the warning signs of the need to modify.  You will learn techniques for both with and without a walking device and tailored to your specific needs. (High or low levels.)
  • If you are younger than 65 and are experiencing balance changes:  There are many factors that can increase your risk of a fall from accidents resulting in fractures to diagnosis and symptoms that increase your dizziness.  Anyone with visual problems may also benefit because vision is directly connected to the balance system.
  • Caregivers/family members who are concerned for their clients/loved ones:  If a client/loved one you know has fallen or is at risk, the education in this class will help them develop good habits that can decrease their fall risk.
  • Assisted living, Independent Living, 55+ communities:  If you own or work for an aging in-place facility/community, then you likely know first-hand the devastating life changes that can happen with falls.  Please fill out the contact form to request a class at your facility and keep your residents living in your communities and out of the hospital!
